2010/09/22 – Arrival in Kyoto (on the Shinkansen from Hiroshima); Walking Kyoto
2010/09/23 – Fushimi Inari-taisha
2010/09/24 – Nara
2010/09/25 – Departure for Tokyo (on the Shinkansen)
On the Shinkansen to Kyoto…
The Hana Hostel Kyoto.
A lot less space than we had in Osaka.
Walking around Kyoto, looking at temples.
And here we have Nishi Hongwanji…
…which is the head temple…
…of the Jodo Shinshu school.
Jodo Shinsu aka ‘The True Essence of Pure Last Buddhist Teaching’.
At home all that stuff is underground.
Another BOSS vending machine and me & yet another interesting drink.
Kyoto Tower at night. End of Day 1.
Off to visit Fushimi Inari-taisha.
Torii, toriis and more toriis. [2010/09/23 – Kyoto/Fushimi Inari-taisha]
Maybe next time we could take a count and calculate the torii value/sqm.
Checking out the bamboo…
…and maybe trying to take some home with us.
Found a new one: Coffee Jelly.
Almost at the top.
Seems like cats and foxes are in charge here.
Finally made it to the top…
…and of course they have a vending machine there.
Found: Giant Gold Buddha.
And then it’s back into the city for dinner. End of Day 2.
Last day in Kyoto. Time to visit Nara.
The deer is out to get you.
Pauline and the map-eating deer.
The Yellow Horde arrives (Nara is seriously overrun with tourists).
They are followed by the Red Horde.
Not even monks are safe from begging deer.
‘The Historic Monuments of Nara’ are yet another UNESCO World Heritage site.
I am watching you…is what he’s saying.
At least the deer don’t seem to be interested in coffee.
Is the cat for sale too?
You give them one map and they will never leave you alone.
