2010/09/20 – Arrival in Hiroshima (on the Shinkansen from Osaka); Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park
2010/09/21 – Miyajima
2010/09/22 – Departure for Kyoto (on the Shinkansen)
Arrived in Hiroshima and went right down to the Peace Memorial Park. Across the river from the Clock Tower.
And here it is…
…the A-Bomb Dome.
After a little tour around the Cenotaph…
…through the Hall of Remembrance…
…through the Hall of Remembrance…
…we ran into Sam again.
Then we found the dressed cat.
Seriously! A dressed cat. Definitely a first for me.
We went food-hunting with Sam and found good okonomiyaki Hiroshima-style at Daimarudou.
After dinner we finished off the day with some good music at a street corner.
Second Day in Hiroshima. At the ferry terminal for our trip to Miyajima.
And here we are…
…right next to the paper-eating deer.
Deer everywhere.
You are not supposed to touch or feed the deer…not that anyone cares.
I need one of those for my door too.
Apparently it’s one of the Top 3 Most Photographed Sites in Japan.
And we doing our part to make sure it stays that way.
Time for a little tour of the shrine.
Looks like during high tide the water reaches up here.
Somehow the Japanese English seemed much better in Osaka.
Up we go…
…to where the good view is…
…and the crazy camera-stealing monkeys are.
Time to take some more pictures.
The Austrian opera singers (we beat them to the top – they need to train some more).
This is as high as you can go on Mt. Misen…and they have a vending machine up here.
Now we have to walk down again…on the way it’s shrines…
…and more torii…
Another opportunity for a couple pictures of the torii – with Hiroshima in the distance.
Time for snacks and souvenirs before the sun sets.
Torii sunset picture.
I have at least two dozens of those.
For dinner we ended up at Daimaroudou in Okonomi-Mura again.
Leaving the Hana Hostel Hiroshima for the last time…
